VISION AND GOALS
The bioeconomy strategy deployed by the Grand Est region represents a genuine means of reconciling the objectives of the region’s economic development with its ecological and agricultural ambitions.
- Meeting the most basic needs of the inhabitants
- Transforming the economy by generating added value and innovation, creating business and jobs
- Distributing added value throughout the territory across all value chains
- Ensuring the sustainability of resources and stakeholder longevity
- Having a systemic and transversal approach catering for the specific demands of economic operators across the territory
500 million euros over 5 years
The regional authority will be a driving force by mobilising 35 million euros per year over 5 years, creating leverage for a final total of 500 million euros in public funds.
5 PRIORITIES FOR AN ECONOMY OF THE FUTURE
1) Local energy strategies
- Development of agrofuels (fuel from organic materials)
- Implementation of the regional biogas strategy
- Development of biofuels (plant-based fuels obtained from rapeseed and sunflower oil or from alcohol, such as bioethanol)
2) Regional biorefineries
- Support the development of existing biorefineries
- Encourage the emergence of new biorefineries
3) Sustainable agriculture
- Promote sustainable agriculture (biocontrol, biofertilisers, precision agriculture)
- Commercialise carbon sequestration in the soil (to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions)
- Develop biobased inputs and commercialise by-products from winegrowing
4) Biobased materials in construction and renovation
- Develop biobased materials
- Prioritise the use of biosourced materials in construction and renovation, develop construction using wood
- Develop construction in wood
5) Sustainable food
- Develop biobased ingredients (human and animal nutrition)
- Develop biomaterials, especially in food packaging
