JEAN ROTTNER’S SPEECH AT THE EU BIOECONOMY CONFERENCE 2022
On October 6th and 7th, the Eu Bioeconomy Conference 2022 brought together more than 1,600 participants in Brussels and online. Jean Rottner, President of the Grand Est region, presented the bioeconomy strategy of the Grand Est region thanks to an intervention filmed beforehand.
Bioeconomy in the middle of thoughts
The purpose of this conference, entitled “Enabling the Green Deal in challenging times”, was to present the results of the Bioeconomy Strategy Progress Report that was adopted last June. This report highlights the role of bioeconomy policies in strengthening policy coherence and the thought of this system.
On this occasion, a series of success stories from research and innovation were presented, as well as evidence of successful implementation of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy. A discussion was held on how the bioeconomy can help better manage certain trade-offs, addressing the question, “How can the growing demand for biomass for energy and industrial needs be reconciled with growing climate and biodiversity goals?”
What about the Grand Est region ?
During the panel “Bioeconomy for a Green and resilient EU industry”, the president, Jean Rottner, presented the regional context, including the agricultural and industrial assets of the region, the success stories of innovative compagnies establishment in Grand Est, projects of the Business Act Grand Est, industry contracts and ambitions for 2030.
